Almonds are one of my favorites, so I find it interesting that people get confused with its pronunciation. http://english-coffee.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
When the 'l' in almond is NOT pronounced, that is all right. You have two ways to pronounce this yummy nut, "with an 'l' or without an 'l'."
Personally, I prefer the latter. Following the idea that the 'A+L+M' combination is usually pronounced without the 'L'.
e.g. calm. palm, psalm

The A in the 'A+L+M' combination is pronounced /a:/ as in father or car.
