anyone into scuba diving?

i belong to a family of scuba divers. we were certified in the year 1999 under PADI and through the instructions of (The Presidential Scuba Instructor) Gigi Santos. since then we just couldn't get enough of the under water experience. after that i advanced my diving knowledge and enrolled myself to a advance-rescue diving course, but this time it was under the agency CMAS and through the teachings of Dick Reyes who also certified me as a Nitrox Diver .

what only hinders us now from our passion is financial difficulty.

Scuba diving is something that I never did but always had the interest in one day doing it. :snorkeling:

What are the basic things we should know or have in terms of equipment? :friendz:

you should try it. it's super fun!

well, your scuba instructor might be asking for a doctors certificate to make sure you are fit and healthy. another thing is basic swimming skills - although some divers (like my mom) don't know how to swim at all. you wont be using your arms to move underwater anyway ( just your legs)

but it's a good thing if you know who to swim just in case you need to swim to shore or to the boat. im sure your scuba instructor can and will teach you the basics in swimming.

as for the equipments: you don't need to buy at first, your scuba instructor will provide everything throughout the entire course or you can rent. but if you decide to purchase your own equipments/ dive gears be sure to inform your instructor, he/she can get you big discounts on most scuba diving shops and dive resorts. :wink1:

enrolling to a Open Water Scuba Diver course isn't that expensive, considering you will be certified for a lifetime (you don't have to renew you c-card unlike if you are a dive master or if you are a scuba instructor) i think today it's around 7k+ to 10k+ pesos?? (on some instructors, study by group to get discounts) (resort accommodation for check out dive excluded) -- included to some. the last time i dove, resort fee is around 3k+ to 5k+ for an overnight stay (room, food, air tanks, boat and dive master) it would be cheaper if you avail group packages (ex.triple sharing, etc.)

you instructors can teach you how to swim. :)

Thanks Santelmo for the info. So, i really need an instructor and get a certification that is lifetime!

Thanks also for the info on the rates. it's interesting to know that there is no need to know how to swin in order to scuba dive!!!

wow santelmo you're a pro, you must be very fit then scuba diving is like working out but you'll never realize it cause your enjoying the scene under water. my sister got me into scuba she went to saipan tried scuba down south of japan, been to thailand but she says its more beautiful diving here cause fishes are big. i couldn't come with her i'm not allowed to dive on lower depths cause i don't have a license yet. she got so excited when she saw sharks in puerto. too bad though, the reefs there now looked like they were bleached. people sometimes don't value what we have and they don't take good care of our treasures :(
