FREQUENCY ADVERBS
ALWAYS
USUALLY
OFTEN
SOMETIMES
SELDOM
RARELY
NEVER
THE DEGREE IS FROM 100% (always) to 0% (never)
These are adverbs we normally use when we refer to certain habits. Talking about habits, we have to consider the Simple Present Tense in expressing these habits.
e.g.
(a) Carlos always goes to work every week days.
(b) The cats are usually hungry every time I arrive home.
(c) Trish often goes to the gym for a work-out.
(d) Dev nevers plays basketball.
(e) Dec seldom sees his aunt.
Take note of the position. These adverbs are placed in between the subject and the verb, EXCEPT in BE-VERBS (b) the verb 'are' precedes the frequency adverb 'usually'. Furthermore, if you use negative frequency adverbs (seldom, rarely, never, etc.) you DO NOT NEED TO USE ANY OTHER NEGATIVE FORMS IN YOUR SENTENCE. Refer to sentences (d) and (e).
We CANNOT say:
Dev does not never play basketball. (this sentence is WRONG!).
One has to choose whether he/she wants to say:
Dev does not play basketball. OR
Dev never plays basketball.
:yell: Wait for more info on frequency adverbs!!!
