Coffeers, have you experienced inviting a person to join English Coffee then they said “I am a Filipino and I am proud to my tagalog language.”?

How do you find that kind of answer?

I am a Filipino and proud to be Filipino too. But in my opinion learning English Language won’t change my nationality or make me less Filipina. I want to learn English but it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to use tagalog dialect. Learning English will help me to communicate with other people.

What about you coffeers what is your opinion?

It's so sad when I hear negative reactions about nationality (being national) and English language. Sometimes this is due to being narrow minded or lack of exposure to foreign languages.

I had a friend that instead of learning English decided to learn Spanish because for him, speaking English was the language of the oppressors. I respected his opinion.

My opinion is totally different. With English I was able to travel to many countries where at least with my poor English I was able to communicate with them (and hoping that someone would know English too). The country that I got amused to speak in English was Japan (in Tokio) where I went several times in the past. I always found someone to speak in English there.

The English language became so international but I know this cannot beat the Chinese and Spanish languages.

Note: I like Tagalog (Filipino) and hopefully in 50 years I will be able to master it!!!

for me...english is a very important tool in communication..hence, learning it could make you a better person.

The language we used cannot me measure our nationality because I do believe that nationality is in the heart and mind of every filipino people

learning english is fun and a worth while activity, with this we Filipino, are known all over the world because of our knowledge in English
