View Full Version : Puzzle 7
Three people check into a hotel.
They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room.
The manager finds out that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return.
On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person.
Now each person paid $10 and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totalling $27.
The bellboy has $2, totalling $29.
Where is the remaining dollar?

No there's no missing dollar...arrggg...how am I going to explain it.....
the logic has been presented, but misleading. there's a term for that in philosophy, but i forgot my philo classes back in college.
anyways, if the bellboy pockets $2, it would make the room cost $28, accounting for the missing dollar in question. that would only further legitimize the misleading logic.
however, if we think this way: these three guests paid $9 each, totaling $27. since the room only costs $25, the two dollars change was "received" by the bellboy. so, there is no floating dollar, only seemingly logical arguments aimed to mislead the public.
on a side note, propagandists use this tactic often to confuse the masses. poor people... tsk
