Okay, so you get into a car, get on a bus, get out of a car, get off a bus.
Now, how about if your stop has come, what does the driver do?
A driver normally LETS OUT (not down) a passenger.
When the vehicle is a bus or a coach, LET OFF is also possible.
e.g.
The taxi driver decided that he did not want to bring me to Makati, so he let me out in the middle of the road!
I didn't know how to get to Libertad, so I asked the bus driver to let me off the nearest station going there.
