Which songs bring you nostalgia? What do you reminisce about when you hear them?
Here's some of mine. Add yours!
1. That theme song from Sesame Street, "Sunny Days" - I remember early mornings when I was a kid, Big Bird would be running all over the screen of the TV and Snuffulafagus following after. I hold my mug of Ovaltine (we always fought for dibs on the free plastic toy) and sit in front of the Tube.
2. Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" - Tis not exactly nostalgic, but i try to focus this song in my mind whenever I feel something is amiss and I can't point my finger at it. Does not always do the trick, but most of the time it helps.
3. "Blueberry Hill" by Fats Domino - those lazy Sundays back in the dorm (Narra Residence Hall, the former best dorm in the whole of UP Diliman Campus!), just swinging on the wooden plank that hung on a tree, hanging out on the bridge, smoking with buddies, talking about everything under the sun: from Magic the Gathering to Dungeons and Dragons to the state of the nation to the fundamentalists and terrorists to pokemon to....
4. Nora Jones' "What Am I to You" - one of the cheesy episodes in my life :D
5. "Love is All Around" by Wet Wet Wet - I was a freshman in high school when this song hit the airwaves. I remember the smell of freshly cut grass of our campus and those long, vacant hours whenever our teacher would be absent and we would stare outside or chatting with the classmates.
6. The Spice Girls "2 Become 1" - Hardcore. Baby Spice, Ginger Spice, Sporty Spice, Scary Spice, Posh Spice. Buddies always gawked at its music video. Good times, the mid 90s. Good times.
7. Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child Of Mine" - if you were alive in the 90s and capable of making your own decisions, and chose rock over hip hop, I'll kill you if you did not do a head bang at least once to this song. Seriously. edit: No, I'm just kidding. I'm peace loving.
8. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" from the Lion King - those solitary walks in the University campus, watching leaves fall down and clutter the road, hearing anthropomorphic noises that culminate around the Sunken Garden, smelling frying fishballs and vehicle exhaust. I don't know why the song reminds me of that scene, but oh well. To each song its own nostalgia, I guess.
That's all I can think of for now. I'll add some later if something hits me.
