EXCEPT or EXCEPT FOR? :caged:

EXCEPT FOR + NOUN PHRASES

e.g.
The house was very clean except for the kitchen.
The audience understood except for the boys at the back.

EXCEPT (FOR) + OBJECT PRONOUNS

e.g.
All my classmates understood the lecture except (for) me. (NEVER: except I)
Most of the students are ready except him.

Another good post - but then when writing (especially on forums) you may want to pay particular attention the differences between except and ACCEPT lol - I see that a lot actually:

Example: The house was very clean accept for the kitchen....

Anyway - I suppose that's a different story entirely - But truly - isn't the English language a beautiful thing?

Thanx again for sharing the knowledge ;)

That's a pretty good point, Jacquii! ^^ I see that a lot, too. Next time, I'll post somecommonly misused and misspelled words. :D You may want to post some, too. What do you think?

English is beautiful, indeed! I especially find the pronunciation interesting as the spelling and the pronunciation of many words are entirely different. ^^

hmmm - I've had a look around - You have a very nicely-themed forum - I don't think I've ever seen a forum that focuses mainly on the English language - Quite unique if I may say so myself...

You may see me online from time to time!
