If you find the the New Beginnings thread too highbrow and rigid, here's an easy role playing thread to get you started. for novices and 13375 alike.
rules are simple:
1. always first and foremost: forum rules above all.
2. create your character, anything goes! (no need to seek approval from thread starter)
3. in character (IC) posts: colored text, out of character (OOC) posts, black text.
4. thread starter or mod (whoever he/she may be) may introduce (non-player characters) NPCs.
5. only one character per user.
6. thread starter reserves the right to amend or add rules whenever he deems fit.
let's get this on!
My name is Gax Sweetooth. I just slammed my big axe unto a large wooden table, tearing it asunder. the barkeep is now looking at me with a scared look in his eyes. I flash my toothless grin, and I rush toward the door, hefting my axe behind my back.
weee weeee im so excited! ive been waiting for this! let's get it on!
I'm the Goddess of the abyss. I control every flow and contour of water, every drop of it. As I lie quietly I hear people calling my name, asking me to nourish and heal. I may be there for them but never pull my patience cause my wrath is beyond your measure. Every beast of the untamed water is under my command. Behold I am Osirah daughter of Osiris.
i rush out into the blinding sun. while i waited for my eyes to adjust, i felt the hilt of my axe behind me. ahh, my axe. feeling its leather thongs now grooved to my grasp i felt comfortable. i hear the barkeep shouting for help. i turn and see the city guards rushing towards me. i ran again towards the opposite direction, knocking a bystander along the way.i ignored his curses and made my way towards the city gates.
game master interjection:
a hunter, looking tired and weary, passed by a crystal-clear pond in the middle of a glade. how odd, he thought. ive been hunting in these forest since i was 12 summers old, and i couldve sworn i know the lay like the back of my hand. this is the first time ive seen this. "goddess of the forest, please grant me fish so i can feed my family," he muttered under his breath and raised his spear, aiming at the water.
"Yes I'll give you fish to feed your hunger and spring to quench your thirst but you have to answer my plea every time I call upon you and be there for the weak, where I can't be able to reach. Whenever rain drops upon you I will send a message on where you are needed. You are called gax sweetooth by mortals, so gax you will be called I will know you as the will of the iron. Do not mistook me again as the forest nymph for I am Osirah, The Goddess of the Abyss"
And so the Goddess stretched her waves and sent him fish and gave him water to drink.

"i must apologize, milady, but tis the first time i have ever heard of such a name. i am called Kendrick the Luckless by the people of Pine Village, a humble woodsman." Now kneeling and touching his forehead on the ground, he continues, "In gratitude to thee, i shall offer my services. Do what thy will of me, call on me, i shall serve thee to the rest of my days, else till thy eminence shall have no further use of thy humble servant." then, rising on one knee, but head still bowed as he have seen the knights in service of the king did in the big city, he speaks, "I am, in all modesty, an able woodsman. no one in Pine Village knows this forest more than i do. if thou willest, i shall protect thine glade from all intrusion. I beg of thee for my leave, milady. My wife and children are hungry, and thy generous gift shall definitely fill their stomachs with thy bounty, and their hearts with eternal praise."
meanwhile, in the city...
"I mustve lost them guards," i said out loud. too loud, i guess, for i have heard a gruff voice behind me, "No, you havent." I felt a hand touch my shoulder. "Gax Sweetooth, or toothless, as you must be now called, i arrest you for disturbing peace and destroying private property!" I turned around and in one swift move i brandished my axe, just polished last night, in front of the gruff-sounding guard. i did not see his face, but i saw his belt. slowly raising my head, my eyes traveled the entire length of his torso up to his own eyes. "Oh, crap. Now I am in deep trouble," i muttered under my breath. "You really want to throw your weight around, Gax Toothless. Let me see you throw yourself on this!"The giant grinned and thrust his sword in front of me. I was quick to dodge, but not too quick. He grazed my shoulder and blood slowly trickled down my left arm. I swung my axe mightily at the giant, but before i felt the contact of my blade against skin, i suddenly blacked out.

If you need my help draw a drop of your or your family's blood in any surface of water even if its just in a cup. I shall taste it and know if it is for real or not. Go now to your family your name will be Luckless no more, you shall be known to all. I will whisper in every towns ear as I pass that you are Kendrick the most favored of Osirah"

As the Goddess played beside her favorite *shraulark she heard the cry of Kendric. She stroke her shraulark on its head and whispered in its ear, "Shlamar luvkru grom pralu shraulark krukz" the beast swirled up the sea and followed Kendric's call.
*Shraulark a beast unknown to man that can dominate both land and water. Lives in the deepest and darkest place in the abyss. Tamed only by Osirah.

Kendric, who thought that he stumbled upon the most fortuitous luck by finding the favor of the a goddess, is now once again deemed to be called luckless. While he bemoans his fate, he heard loud thumping sounds and trees crashing behind him. He picked his spear and and turned around. To his surprise he saw a huge scaly monster with webbed hands and water constantly dripping from its massive body. Kendric caught his fierce looking eyes and started to feel fear.
But a second after he realized he has nothing more to lose. In his loudest voice, albeit trembling with fear, he boldly stated, "Foul monster! So you have returned to finish what you started! Let's see who gets finished!" He then charged headlong into the monster, his spear steadily aiming at the monsters chest. Kendric is not seeing anything except the point of his spear and the area at which the monster's chest it is going to pierce.

As a suggestion why don't we open a forum or sub-forum for essay and short story. At the end of the year we could have a poll for the best essay and short story with the award given in a fellowship night or Christmas party or EB as you call it. The essays and short stories will actually be the application of what we are learning here in EC. What do you think guys?

Once again he dropped to his knees. "Forgive my impudence, Milady Osirah. Had I not been overwhelmed with wrath I should have acted more carefully." Then he stood to his full height, but still being dwarfed by the scaly colossus. "Shraulark, as our mistress calls thee, you have come here to do my bidding. Now, let us go forth and serve vengeance!"
The great beast roared, but did not move. "What is the matter, Shraulark?" Kendric asked. "Surely the mistress told me that you can find those whose desire is to bring me pain and suffering?" Once again, Shraulark roared, but closer to a whimper, whatever the sound a huge beast made. It still did not move.
Hey patis what happened to my favorite shraulark? Oh no! What do you have in mind? This beast is far to powerful to be wasted.

What do I have in mind? I'd give the whole universe, had I owned it, to those who can tell me what I have in mind. LOL Your shraulark, despite its size and strength, is not without its flaws. If it's that perfect, then why would Osirah be the goddess and it her minion? LOL

LOL, no it isn't yet. (This goes to all members) Why don't you join in? just think of a character, what he/she/it is like, what your character can do, whatever. He/She/It can be anything you can think of, and I'll pop your character in. It's very easy! Think of yourself as an actor, and all your actions, thoughts, speech are based on how your character sees the world.
neyx's Osirah is a goddess who controls the water and all the creatures around it. (neyx: stop reading for the moment LOL). It actually is a very difficult character to play (we all know the saying with great power...). So why not start with a character with little or no awesome powers at all, just a simple one, and watch your character grow, have adventures, and perhaps if you play your cards right, even team up or battle against Osirah.
(neyx: you can resume reading now.) Why stay in the bleachers when you can be a star of the show? Go on and 'git! We're also waiting for YOU! :D:D:D

Actually, I imagined Osirah to look like Ursula in Disney's the Little Mermaid. LOL But I decided against it. Maybe she's shape shifting and her real form is similar to Ursula's, but uglier. After all, she'd the goddess of the abyss, and it's host to a bunch of ugly creatures, like Shraulark, eh? LOL
Actually, I imagined Osirah to look like Ursula in Disney's the Little Mermaid. LOL But I decided against it. Maybe she's shape shifting and her real form is similar to Ursula's, but uglier. Osirah is goddess because she is the daughter of Osiris one of the oldest gods for whom records have been found and first appears in the Pyramid Texts around 2400 BC. Yes she is goddess by birth but she's no lazy goddess and you'll soon see how powerful she is :rythm:

At last, Kendric thought at the movement of the great monster. Justice shall be served by the scaly arm of this water beast! Kendric ran alongside Shraulark's long strides, struggling to keep up. As they cross the town, he remembered that his only weapon, his trusty spear, shattered at Shraulark's body. Kendric shuddered at the thought of anyone who would dare irk this creature.
The two pressed on forward, Kendric running, and Shraulark stomping anything and everything in its path. Shraulark mindlessly crushed his friend Dylar's house. He would've reprimanded it, but held his tongue and decided against it. He instead picked up Dylar's spear, mumbled a short prayer and thanks, and ran after the monster.

Gax awoke to the sound of metal grating against stone. When he opened his eyes it took him a moment to register that he is inside a jail cell, and a soldier was pushing the bars open. Keeping silent, the soldier unshackled Gax's arms and legs and a second soldier prodded him out with a spear. "Watch where you point that, dog!" Gax snarled as he stepped out of the cell. "You're so lucky I'm unarmed."
"Shut your hole," the soldier snapped back. Apparently he was in no mood to be jolly with the prisoners. Not that he seems to be, ever. Gax rubbed his aching wrists and wondered where on Aeiun could he be. He was about to ask when he saw the king's sigil on the keystone of the dungeon exit.
The prisoner and his escorts walk through a series of passageways and finally entered a courtroom. It could have been magnificent and imposing, but the unusual darkness, broke only by few and intermittent pools of light cast by too few candles, blankets the room with a chilling embrace. It is daytime, but what sort of devil would prefer darkness over the cheerful daylight?
"I bring before your highness Gax Sweetooth for disturbing peace and breaking private property," a man with a commanding voice spoke behind Gax. To Gax's either side are soldiers with halberds held across in front, ready to slice off his head. "Your majesty, I know that you desire to be just, but it is my own humble opinion that the matter concerning this prisoner stop being a waste of your time, it is such a trifle ...." Gax stopped listening to this senseless diatribe and started picking his nose.
He can't make out what the king looks like in the darkness. All Gax sees in front of him is a dark spot and a very faint outline of a throne. He must be the king, he thought, while flicking his snot to the soldier to his right. The soldier must have not noticed, for he did not flinch a bit.
Just then the king shifted a little and his faint profile came to a clearer view. "Raibannah! Ra-raiban!" Gax suddenly exclaimed. "So you are now king!" Gax moved to make a step forward but the soldiers tensed and drew the sharp blades closer to his unprotected neck. Knowing he is without his weapons and armor, he stopped instantly.

Shraulark and the beast went past beyond Pine Village and continued to head straight towards the great city of Bahal-mon. Whether the beast intends to destroy the city or go past it, Kendric could not tell. "Wherever doth wisheth to be, Great Shraulark, avatar of Osirah, I ask that we steer clear of the city limits, lest we attract the attention of the city guards. I'm afraid that they might have spears mightier and more numerous than what I have given to thine reception." Unsure if Shraulark understood, Kendric nudged the big monster on its leg to the direction away from the city gates. Shraulark stopped and growled at Kendric. "Why don't thou speaketh of thy plan, Shraulark?" Kendric scratched his head and realized Shraulark might be talking, he just could not understand monster talk. Perhaps if milady Osirah can grant her poor servant monster tongue so he can converse with the beast, Kendric thought while pouring glade water unto the cup.
Meanwhile, back in the city....
"Darn that Raibannah," Gax shouted as he threw the copper goblet against the wall. "I wonder what happened to that proud human! He always flaunted his beautiful face to whomever we saw and now, here he is, every square inch of his skin wrapped in silk! And expensive silk at that!" He got up from the table and walked out of the mess hall. Upon seeing that scrawny kid mopping the floor, he bellowed his query, "Eggplant! Tell me where the king's quarters is or I shall slice your head off with my..." Gax stalled. His trusty ax was not on his back!
The youngster was about to retort a smart-ass answer when Gax regained his composure. "I'll tear your head from your shoulders! And tell me where my ax and armor are being kept!" Gax slowly walked to the kid, now trembling and about to pee in his trousers. Gax kicked the bucket and it crashed in the hall.

Hyahaha! Oh patis if only you've seen my brother before going to the cosplay as a zombie. We tried every possible way to make his head look like a cracked skull. All our bathroom tissues were used up just by practicing on him for 2 days.

Osirah grew impatient. She thought to herself let Shraulark do his job but she couldn't resist, so she plunged out of her deep home out of the water and spread mist around the town. The whole surrounding in and out of the town were covered with thick clouds and people could see her as if she was there, her image real as flesh carved through the mist. She saw the mess that Shraulark did and saw the face of Kendric, no interpreter was needed to tell her that Kendric needs to know what's in Shraulark's mind. A soft whisper she gave them, a whisper only Kendric and Shraulark could hear "Shandra kruv la kro , la re lambro Kendric shlo" then a strange light surrounds Kendric. Osirah smiled away and the whole land was cleared. She knew that the spell had took action and gave Kendric the power to understand sea creatures and hear their thouoghts.
I took a copy of my brother's picture cosplaying Bonorenof of hunterXhunter. Edited it using cartoonizer and *poof* this maybe a good picture of what Raibannah Ra-raiban may look like (except for the ID part just picture it as an amulet hanging around his neck).

An array of colors flooded Kendrick's vision. Wave after nauseating wave of light and sound overwhelmed him and knocked him off his feet. A moment after he came to, and he saw the scaly beast looking at him. "Where to, human?" The beast growled. Kendrick's eyes widened in shock. It spoke!
He remembered hearing a voice and the mist. That explains it, he thought. He looked around him and saw that they were on the edge the woods. Down the hill he can see the farmlands that supply grain to Bahal-mon, and into the horizon he can see the mighty walls gleaming in the afternoon sun.
"We should avoid the city, great Shraulark. The people might get alarmed at your presence and..."
"I am neither deaf nor dumb, human. The orcs who raided your home lay far beyond north of that city. There is no other way except through the city. We could go around and travel east, but with your short legs, it would take months. Do not think I will carry your worthless hide."
"Maybe if we travel in the dark of the night?" Kendrick asked.
"I sleep right after the last rays of the sun have gone. And I need a large pool of water to lie in."
"Then maybe we should head back inside the woods. I know of a secluded stream there. By tomorrow I will have thought of a plan." He picked up his friend's spear and entered the woods.

"Where is that $&@! king! Rarai-ban!" Gax shouted on top of his lungs. There was nobody in the hallway, save him and the terrified kid. "Get me to your armory, eggplant, before I rip your legs from your torso!"
"Ye-ye-yessir.." He is breaking into sobs.
"Quit your whining, or I'll rip your eyeballs from their sockets!" Gax blurted.
Finally the two got to the armory. It was guarded by four men, two carrying swords and the other two carrying cocked crossbows, ready to fire. The swordsmen unsheathed their swords and glared at Gax.
"Listen, maggots," Gax boldly spoke, pulling himself to his full height. He grabbed the kid by the scruff of his neck, as if handling a scrawny cat. "I will go inside that armory. I will go get my ax and my armor. You will stand aside and let me do that in peace. You will see to it that I will go unharmed during the process. You will let me go scott-free. Lastly, you will do as I have said or this kid will get it!"
The four guards hesitated then lowered their weapons. Gax entered the portal, still holding the kid, his trousers now already wet with pee. He glanced out the door and more guards collected outside, waiting for him to make the wrong move.
Earth calling new role players! Come out come out wherever you are! :D

It was not long after dusk when King Rarai-ban rose from his royal bed. The bed actually looks more like a coffin to prevent the sun from filtering through it but the ornate appearance gives the royal touch to it. This is Rarai-ban's resting place from sunrise to sunset eversince Amunrakh cursed him to his nocturnal existence.
Now he felt relaxed and fresh after a complete day of rest. he wondered what has happened while he was asleep and decided it was time to find it out. He tapped the door of the inner chamber and in no time the guards had opened it. King Rarai-ban surveyed the guards who were all bowing in respect. "Where is my page? Didn't I told him to always wait here on the door?" Rarai-ban was fuming mad. "Your Majesty your page was held hostage by Gax, the intruder", answered one of the soldiers.
"Ahh this bloody Gax is wearing down my patience and abusing my hospitality.Seize him and bring him to me", ordered the Rarai-ban.
While waiting, he contemplated what to do with Gax. He could have him killed anytime now that he was within his palace but then he knew too well that he was his link to Osirah.
With a sigh he thought of Osirah, the love of his life.
Gax finally finishes donning his armor. It is made up of leather from the mountain beasts he himself slew in the Icy Mountains. It is studded with steel his brothers mined in those mountains. It is always with great pride that he wears this studded leather armor, a testament to his power and his race's honor. He keeps still for a few seconds in silent tribute to his fallen brothers. "Once again, my brothers," Gax prays softly, "Lend me your strength that I may swing my ax mightily to fell the foe!"
The boy now faints. "All the better," Gax thinks. He hoists the limp body in front of him, the blade of his ax menacingly against the boy's neck. "Let me through, dogs!" He roars.
The guards, now numbering to twenty, part for Gax to come through. Their crossbows aim for Gax, their spears point at his direction. Their heavy breathing fills the atmosphere of the hallway. Slowly they fill the gap Gax leaves as he steps away from them, keeping him within reach.
Meanwhile, in Raibannah's chambers, a guard rushes in to report. "Sire. Forgive our incompetence. But Gax has just taken hostage of your page and is escaping. We cannot just shoot for fear of the boy's life, who's already fainted from fear. What do we do, sire?"
Outside the city, at the edge of the woods.
Kendrick searches for a pool large enough for Shraulark to lie in for the night. Upon finding, he gathers some firewood and makes camp. Shraulark wades into the pool and lies on his side. "Too shallow," Shraulark mutters under his breath, "but better than none." Soon he is sound asleep.
Kendrick searches for the fish Osirah had given her. He makes a hearty meal out of it over the fire, and begins eating. Before he has taken the first bite, though, he felt the coolness of sharp metal against his neck. He dares not move, nor speak.
"What have we got here?" A voice hisses silently from behind his back. "A woodsman, and a great water beast deep in the forest? Choose your words carefully, for it may very well be your last."
Kendrick gulps. "I'm merely a traveler, sire. This... uhh, animal here, it just came out of nowhere and decided to join me. May I ask who I am talking with?" Sweat now pours from his face. He has never been threatened like this before.
"Hush, woodsman. I am the one asking the questions around here. Now, where do you come from?" Kendrick now hears some rustling in the bushes just beyond the light of his fire. Just across him Shraulark sleeps, unheeding of the danger his charge is in.
Kendrick weighs the virtue of honesy against lying to save his skin. The intruder might very well be the same people who destroyed Pine Village. In their rush, he never thought of checking if they were being followed! Some fine warrior I would make. Or never would make, considering the situation. "Speak!" The hiss rumbled lowly into a growl. "Or the monster will have it." At this moment Kendrick saw several figures behind Shraulark, several spears pointed against its neck. Firelight danced on some of the metal points aimed perfectly at what seems to be a soft patch on Shraulark's formidable scales.
"I'm from Pine Village, sire!" Kendrick blurts out hurriedly. At this instant he rolls to his side, and grabs his spear. He recovers and finds three people behind him: The one with the dagger, and two others with bows knocked and aimed at his chest. "Shraulark!" He shouts. "Intruders!"
But the great beast just mutters something about handling them by himself and gurgles some more pool water.

This is funny I didn't know my great beast is lazy... Poor Kendrick I'll just watch what happens I don't want to give my powers to a man with no courage at all. This maybe the time for him to prove his worth as Osirah's yielding sword of the land. Kendrick also needs to sharpen his skills.

The sun stretched to the far lands of Aieun. Its rays tried to reach the abyss of Osirah. She was awaken by its warm fading touch. As she gently opened her eyes of crystal blue and stretched her arms slowly, she stroke her long hair with waves like the ocean itself. Osirah remained rested in her bed for a few *horas.
"Where could Kendric be? Can he really be my sword in the land as I see him to be?" Even if she could take a peek of his pet and sword on the land she refuses to see. She wishes that the decision on fate will take its own course. Instead she stared at herself in her crystal walls and saw her image. It was a lone image, her heart wasn't meant to be with someone else. Goddess as she is -there are limits. To live in eternity her lips shall remain cold and her heart a stone. If her heart throbs for another her weakness shall show, she will bleed like any mortal and if her lips were warmth by a kiss of true love she'll die as soon as the setting of the sun.
And so she tried to look away and wept. "This ocean has more warmth than a Goddess' skin."

Patis I think you should continue on what happened to Kendric and Shraulark. Because you said I couldn't touch 'em so do what is needed so the story can proceed to wherever it is heading.
The story goes thusly....
Kendric is taken into custody. Gax is fighting his way through the castle halls, looking for Raibannah.
People can join in, make a character and continue the story, OR, you can start a new one that fits into the world of Aieun.
If you want to continue the story, you can be one of the men/women who captured Kendric and interrogate him, or free him even, or what have you. Or you can also be a soldier or the castle keeper accidentally bumping into Gax and disrupts him.... The possibilities are endless!
You can start your own way if you want to start your own story line. It's all up to you. The only important thing is to have fun writing.
[LOL I'm cheating my way out of this for tonight. I'll write an entry perhaps tomorrow or the day after that....]
Just like what Patis suggested, I hope some of you can join in. Just tinker with the keyboard and let it all loose. Don't be shy, you can practice your writing skills. Since there is no right or wrong here, just plain you and your writing. Let your imagination grow, you'll see that bit by bit your vocabulary skills will bloom.
