Choose one: "The girl that married dear old dad" or "The girl who married dear old dad."

If it both sound right, it's because both are right.
A person can either be either a that or a who.
A thing, on the other hand, is always a that.

But what about Benjy and Morris? Dogs and Cats aren't people, but they aren't quite things, either. Is an animal a that or a who?

If the animal is anonymous, or we don't use its name, it's a that:
"There's the dog that won the Frisbee competition."

If the animal has a name, he or she is a who:
"Morris is a cat who knows what he likes."

This part is more well-known I think.
But the following part is very useful to me.

This part is exactly what I often ignore when I use a that or a who.

I really love this forum, because it teaches us how to speak and write proper English language, it is very good specially for people who speaks poor English, it enhances our skills and ability, here we can tests our speaking and writing ability and other than that, we got the chance to interact with other people, learn from them by exchanging ideas...that is why i am glad to found it.. thanks to the people who are behind this great website...:animal-bear:
