To start your day right, challenge your mind and answer this..:BU:...
It was Emily's first day at school. The teacher suggested that it would be a good idea for each child to meet every other child in the class. The teacher said, "When you meet, please shake hands and introduce yourself by name." If there were 10 children in the class, how many were the total handshakes?

Let A -J = 10 children
Child A will make a handshake to Children B - J (9 handshakes)
Child B will make a handshake to Children C - J (8 handshakes)
(A already had a handshake with B)
Child C will have a handshake to Children D - J (7 handshakes)
(C already had a handshake with A and B)
Child D will have a handshake to Children E - J (6 handshakes)
(D already had a handshake with A, B and C)
Child E will have a handshake to Children F - J (5 handshakes)
(E already had a handshake with A, B, C and D)
Child F will have a handshake to Children G - J (4 handshakes)
(F already had a handshake with A, B, C, D and E)
Child G will have a handshake to Children H - J (3 handshakes)
(G already had a handshake with A, B, C, D, E and F)
Child H will have a handshake to Children I - J (2 handshakes)
(H already had a handshake with A, B, C, D, E, F and G)
Child I will have a handshake to Child J (1 handshake)
(I already had a handshake with A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H)
Therefore,
9 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 45 handshakes

Therefore,
9 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 45 handshakes
wOw nice explanatiion..
u Got it riGht..:thatsit:
Each student shakes the other students hands once. Therefore the first student shakes 9 hands, the second shakes 8, the third shakes 7 and so on until the last student. Therefore we have 9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 45.
