Check this one out by Lynne Truss.

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.

:holler: "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

So what's the deal here? What actually does a panda do? :hihihi:

CMO, yes, the panda is vegetarian, but what else can you understand from this very short story? :painting:

Hello Cath, CMO!
:-)

I have a copy of that book. It was given to me as a gift last year. I enjoyed reading it.

Let me confess. The first time I read that part of the book (re: panda), I did not understand it. I wondered how the tale could be related to punctuations.

But now that CMO pointed out that the panda is a vegetarian, who eats shoots and leaves, I'm laughing out loud!

Dear, was I so slow? Hahaha!

I'm sure the panda in the tale would have behaved differently if there was no comma after eats!

Thanks to both of you. I learned something today! :-)

I found this book during the Book Fair and I found it very interesting (although I haven't finished reading it yet... hehehe), especially the story of the panda. I even used it in my class and they had a good laugh!

:thanks:
