pinoypower

We've heard of the shortest and longest English words.
Now I want to know what's the shortest and longest sentence in the English language.:happy0045:
Note: It must have a subject and a predicate.
The prize: A bar of the biggest commercially available Toblerone.
Delivery date : On or about April 2010
Hummm, let's search!!! :google:
:firefox:
its indefinite... it could be recursing, reversing, undeliberate, multi-subjected, unpredictably grammatically correct sentence because a subject could be a whole sentence, so as the predicate - so it may go on and on depending on the stamina of the writer/typist/computer/paper supply/ink supply, there is also no certain rule regarding how many adjectives one could add in a sentence, so as a verb could actually be a whole sentence again complete with mny adjectives, a whole sentenced subject, another verb, a completely descriptive predicate, and so on.

Thanks for your opinion but I need an answer. :yey:
LOL everybody seems to be giving away chocolates today huh. Do you give a chocolate bar to the shortest sentence, and another to the longest? What are the mechanics? For example, at least two people posted two-word sentences vying for the short sentence category, do you count the letters to break the tie? Should it be declarative sentences only, or do you count questions as sentences?
My entry for the shortest sentence would be:
I am.
Shortest Sentence:
Go. (command)

LBM:happy0007:You started offering chocolates and I don't want to be outdone and be called stingy.
My only requirement for the answer is it must be a complete sentence with a subject and a predicate. The correct answer should be a declarative sentence only.
Your answer qualifies for the criteria but I will defer the decision later to give others a chance.:rythm:

I'm looking for a complete sentence. The subject must not be implied. Nice try! Your answer is the shortest on record but as I said the subject must not be implied.:WINKING:
Shortest sentence: It is.
Longest sentence: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. (LOL)

This is my attempt at the longest sentence ever posted here in English-Coffee.com because I really like to win the chocolate bar not to mention the fame and prestige it would bring me to win the next Global Presidential elections that will be held in 2020, which is about twelve years from now and I know that it is more than a decade in waiting but it is alright because I will need all the time I can get to prepare for the said elections and when I get to be World President I will have all the chocolate bars I can lay my hands on and at the same time I will order for an immediate research for diabetes prevention so I will not have to worry about that illness that is the bane of many people nowadays and I pity them because they cannot have the finer things in life like chocolate which is made from that tropical bean called cacao that comes in a football (the United States American football, not that which these same Americans call soccer) shaped fruit and a hard shell whose beans are covered in a white sweet meat-like coating that we eat as children back in the provinces and the seeds (or beans if you want to call them that) that are not thrown away (because that is the main ingredient in chocolate) and cleansed and then sun dried which, after a few days, will be roasted and finely ground to produce cocoa powder then some sweetening is added to make crude chocolate tablets (or tabliya, whatever the Spanish would like to spell that but that does not diminish the wonderful bittery taste that this product gives) which are then dissolved in hot water and you can add some milk or sugar to taste and makes for a wonderful morning drink way better than those chocolate powder brands like Milo or Ovaltine which I remember when I was a kid they have free plastic toys that my brother and I used to fight over whenever we needed to buy another jar because we used to put the powder on almost everything - rice, bread, muffins - well almost everything made of cereal and how can I forget ice cream, too, the chocolate flavor of which notwithstanding so all the sugar we got made us hyperactive which made us get "it" (I disdain to use another word despite it being more appropriate) but it was quite alright because we had fun and fun is all that matters to a child so I love it when teachers and educators incorporate fun in their lessons, or on the other hand, incorporate lessons in fun which is what I am having right now despite all the nonsense that I am putting here to make this sentence longer just because I want to win the chocolate bar and the prestige that it will get me to win the Global Presidential elections a dozen years from now and when I win it my first decree will be to gather all the chocolate in the world and have it and my second decree will be to order for diabetes research but I am not selfish; I will share that information to other people suffering from diabetes so we can all have fun eating chocolate, but only those I will be willing to share the rest of the world which will undoubtedly create a black market for chocolate since I hoarded them all but it is alright, since I will not hoard all future productions and I doubt that I can eat all the chocolate before they expire so I will just taste a bite from each and every product and I will give the rest to my adoring fans whom I won due to my fame and prestige for winning this longest sentence contest in English-Coffee.com.

Gan, you're so cool!!!! :bounce: I think you've got it!!:Cat Smiley 6111:
Not to burst your bubble, but it's all about perspective. Some couples may enjoy married life, hence they would think that their lives before marriage could be the longest one, after all.

Come now, pinoypower, don't be a scrooge. You can send one to each. LOL
I was not yet through with my announcement when I was sent for an emergency job by my boss.
So here's the final verdict:
The answer I'm looking for actually is one and the same for both the longest and the shortest sentence. Notice that I didn't say longest and shortest sentences but just sentence. Therefore, the answer ' I do. ' qualifies for both but it must be stated.
' I do. ' is the shortest complete sentence and when said as a marriage vow it could also mean a life sentence, which is indeed very long!
As for your answer my GM your 'I am.' qualifies for the shortest complete sentence while your longest sentence represent a very good effort that no else tried.
So here's the breakdown of the prizes:
Half bar of chocolate for luckycharm15
Half bar of chocolate for gAn
One bar of chocolate for patis.:superhappy:
Better luck next time and to gAn and luckycharm15 maybe you could earn your other half in another contest which I shall announce later.:hihihi:
WOOHOOO! A whole bar of chocolate w00t! Thanks pinoypower!
Half bar of chocolate...that's fine with me, pinoypower! I'll watch out for your next contest so I can earn the other half.
You better announce when you're going to Manila...I'll assign someone to collect my prize.
