There are words that are spelled alike; but when we use them either as a noun, as a verb, or even as an adjective, we stress differently and some words are pronounced differently as well. :there:

PRESENT (n) (adj) /'pre-znt/

e.g.
Yumi received many presents for her birthday.
The present tenses are not so difficult to understand and use.

PRESENT (v) /pri-'zent/

e.g.
Kindly present your coupons to the customer service representative.

RECORD (n) /'re-krd/

e.g.
I like to buy records from Music One.
The auditor must check the records before doing the semi-annual report.

RECORD (v) /ri-'kord/

e.g.
Carlos records the meeting every month.
Where you able to record the different consonant and vowel sounds?

Notice here that the stress for the nouns and adjectives are on the first syllable, whereas for the verb, stress is on the second syllable.

This is important because people need to know whether you are referring to a noun, adjective, or a verb as you speak.

More words till next and if you have some, you can share them, too!!! :wink1:
