Most persons have secret fears and these fears come in various names usually ending in 'phobia'. The objective of this thread is to give at least one fear that you know. In the end we will have 'The Sum of All Fears' and we would have enriched our vocabulary.

I will start with:

acrophobia - the fear of heights.:perspiring:

I kinda have acrophobia, too.

I'm trying to get over it, though.

I also have one fear which I don't know the name yet. Perhaps the best English teacher I've known could help me. It is this fear of spending. Can I call it 'gastophobia'?:superhappy:

Aquaphobia

Is this fear of water? Reminds me of rabies stricken people and how horrible their end could be.:emoticon-5:

Claustrophobia

Fear of tight spaces

I think I have this kind of phobia. Is this the one that makes you anxious thinking you might get trapped in tight spaces, or in tunnel or in elevators? I hate small, confined and crowded rooms even at daytime. I can't breathe in total darkness. Whew! i sure got a few (maybe a lot?) of those fears myself. But wonder of all wonders, I totally enjoy overcrowded concert venues and very crowded dancefloors! Can't explain why. hehehe! :DANCER::DANCER::DANCER:

:summer::summer::summer:

Here's another kind of phobia:

Brontophobia: fear of thunder.

"Brontophobia" is derived from the Greek "bronte" which means thunder. This one is on the Phobia List of Top 10 most popular phobias. A related term: Astraphobia, fear of thunderstorms.

I remember one sweet student of mine who has this kind of phobia, just barely 8 years old during that time. Everytime we had a thunder and lightning during the rainy season, her crying was non-stop, too. She cries ever so softly. Hope she has gotten over it now.

Is there a fear for fearing no fears? I think I have that fear. I'm afraid that I don't know what would make me fear most. I still can't find one fearful thing for me.

I wonder if the antonym of this is caligynephilia because I am always attracted to beautiful women. For me beautiful women are like beautiful flowers in a garden. One rule I observe is just to appreciate the beauty but never to pluck them, especially if they are in someone else garden.:smitten:

I was surprised to find out the names for fear of certain numbers. Here they are:

Triskadekaphobia - fear of the number 13

Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia - fear of the number 666. Even the name is frightening to spell ,isn't it?

Octophobia - fear of the number 8. Honestly, I don't know what's to be scared of the number 8. Many Chinese actually consider 8 as a lucky number.

For more of phobias please don't be afraid to visit http://phobialist.com . I stumbled on it while searching for more 'phobias'.:google:

You guys out there, what is the absence of fear? :bounce:

And pinoypower, can we invent a word for the sum of all fears? I think there is no word for this one yet. :superhappy:

Your gastophobia is quite interesting. I have that kind of fear now. Rice here in Korea is so expensive. Imagine, a kilo costs 3,800 won. Converting that to peso, it is something like 164 pesos.:HUNGRY:

...especially if they are in someone else's garden .. that's a good rule of thumb for a good man like you. May your tribe increase.:):)
