Imagine a Philippines
Imagine a Philippines where there is no hunger and malnutrition. Imagine a Philippines where everyone has access to health care and education. Imagine an economically advanced Philippines where everyone can work to forge a better life for himself and his family. Imagine a Philippines with properly designed communities as habitat for its people instead of slums and shanty towns like Payatas and Smokey Mountain. Imagine a Philippines……
I can go on typing all day for my wish list of what I dream for my country. Those who will read this will probably laugh at me as hopeless dreamer and worst perhaps mock me as a mental asylum outpatient. But I have to tell you that I am perfectly sane. I believed in what I said. I have faith in my country the Philippines. I have faith in our people just like Ninoy Aquino who said “The Filipino is worth dying for.”
The famous author Napoleon Hill said in his book Think and Grow Rich that: “Dreams are the seedlings of reality.” Base on this premise, my dreams for my country could therefore be a reality. The gazillion peso question is HOW because as all traditional politicians think, everything can only be achieved with money. I have to diverge from this point. While money is important there are other things far more powerful than money. Talk about faith and intense love of country or patriotism. With faith the impossible can be possible, the unreachable dream can be a reality.
This is what all Filipinos need. The belief that together we can achieve these dreams for our country. Let us be united in this dream. Let us transform these dreams into burning desires until it takes the shape of reality.
The tasks ahead will not be easy. It needs national unity and determination. We cannot achieve anything if our attitudes remain the same as today. We must have definite plan of actions to achieve our dreams for our beloved country. To do these we need to change.
If we look back in the past, almost all presidents had promised changes just like any other politicians. What happened? Did they succeed or failed? I don’t want to judge anyone. Just look around you and you will see the answer. Look at the abject poverty. See the hungry who scavenge the garbage dumps for food. Look at the homeless and the sick. But all these things are past. Let us not dwell on it. Let’s look to the future and what can be done.
I am sure many will say that if these big politicians failed how we, ordinary people, will succeed. As I said before, the key is faith. With faith nothing is impossible. If we believe we can then consider it done.
In my next post I shall outline the needs for social, economic and political reforms and how these will lead to the realization of our national dreams.
Meantime, I would like to request you fellow Coffeers to complete this sentence and express your dreams for our country:
Imagine a Philippines..............

Wow, pinoypower!! You are living up to your username. Based on your writing, you have a very strong passion and dream for our country to be a better place to live, almost dreaming for a nirvana. I believe that with faith in ourselves and in the Filipino, the resilient Filipino, we can rise and be great people again. :clover:
Imagine a Philippines with disciplined motorists and pedestrians, to say the least. Imagine a Philippines with very clean streets because every Filipino disposes garbage properly and picks up candy wrappers and cigarette ends from the streets they pass and in their neighborhood. Imagine a Philippines which has awakened from its being apathetic to the "burning issues" and has acted decisively on them in order to restore its moral fiber and dignity. Imagine a Philippines ....:clover:
Imagine a Philippines with righteous people, full of love, living in peace
but ........
it it is all a dream.
i am imagining a Philippines living in dream.

When I started this post I was hoping to elicit responses from the widest spectrum of our Coffeers. As we move along, I hope to have a clear picture of the collective aspirations of our people for our country. Some of of you might ask why I said "a Philppines" and not "the Philippines"? It's because I am talking here of a new Philippines and not the country that we used to know. That's why your aspirations and dreams will be the specifications for a new nation that we will build. A new nation, a new Philippines. So, Coffeers express your best wishes for our country and be careful of what you wish for because you might get it.:)
@sharon_q: Actually, I am not dreaming of a Nirvana here. I am dreaming of a real and possible picture for our country. It's not impossible because if you look at our Asian neighbors many of them have done it. Take the case of Singapore. It's a small country with far less natural resources than us and yet with the unifying and selfless leadership of Lee Kuan Yew it became a leading country in Asia and the things that we dream of like education, health care, employment, disicipline and many more are there. It's more or less the same with Malaysia. It only took one Mahathir Mohammad to propel their country to the status of a prosperous country. Of course, it's not a one man show. The people of these countries are one with their leaders in achieving the best for their country. If Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan and others can, why can't we? Aren't we world-class and the best as our politicians say in their rhetorics.:emoticon-6:
@mandy: Keep on dreaming for our country. As I quoted: "Dreams are the seeds of reality.":emoticon-5:
Imagine Philippines with a tradition and culture of no other -The Lost City of Gold. Respected to have our true culture known, imagine it flourish as we hug our own, love what is ours not what other countries have. A Philippines where we can say we have a colorful past that we can bring back to life once more.
This picture I have in mind where I can see who we are. The only way we can see where we are heading is to know where we came from. They say the Philippines wasn't discovered by the Spaniards but was rediscovered back then when they came here our ancestors already had a system. Everyone can read and write. Even our dead was respected by placing a golden mask over it. The true royalty of our ancestors are long gone. To know what it is and how they lived would be a blessing for all of us, so that we can take pride of who we really are.

i am one with you pinoypower ... been dreaming of a Philippines for so long.
imagine a Philippines where everybody can go to school rich and poor, young and old, where good education is available and affordable ...
Imagine a Philippines where people aren't imagining for change, instead, doing it. Where imagination is used for progress and development of what we have, not regretting what we don't have and what we aren't, where dreams come true and not remain dreams for long. Imagine a Philippines where we people desire to come in hopes of realizing their hopes and ideals.
Imagine people saying, "Philippines!"

Thanks Pinoypower.
Despite the possibility of me working abroad soon, I still have high hopes for the country.
I STILL imagine
...a Philippines where workers are not overworked and underpaid.
...a Philippines where people need not go elsewhere looking for "greener pastures"
...a Philippines where the welfare of the children and the elderly is prioritized.
...a Philippines whose government reflects the ideals of Rizal, Bonifacio and Aquino.
(There's a lot that I still want to add. *sigh*)
and most of all,
...a Philippines whose people need not imagine all these things.

Thanks patis for sharing your thoughts here. You have a point there when you said that people must not imagine change alone but do it as well. Imagining is just the beginning just like when an architect is conceptualizing a design in his mind. Imagining must progress to planning and then actual project execution or realization.
We must not underestimate dreaming or imagination though. J.K. Rowlings of the Harry Potter fame said in her acceptance speech of an honorary doctorate degree in the US that imagination is far more powerful than magic and that it is a power available to all those who desire it. I believe her just like the early explorers Magellan, Vasco de Gama and Columbus who refused to believe the accepted notion that the world was flat and imagined that it was round. Because of their imagination new worlds where discovered and a false belief was debunked.
I am in agreement with you that we must not regret what we don't have and what we aren't. What I regret is the wasting of our rich natural resources and the lack of of opportunities for Filipinos to realize or fulfill what they can really be.
As for people coming to Philippines to realize their hopes and ideals, well, I think it is happening for a very long time already. Chinese, Indians, Koreans, Japanese and even Europeans were and are coming in hordes to settle here and realize their dreams of prosperity. Most of them succeeded and that's what I find ironic. If other nationalities can succeed in our own country why is it very difficult for us to do so?
I will go on imagining till I find the answers to these questions.:emoticon-5:
Imagine a Philippines where people think and do what is right and good for all and not just for their own.
Imagine a Philippines where people are doing things to solve the problems and issues.
We all know who, what, and where the problems are.
We have the ideas on how we could solve the problem.
Question is: WHEN are we going to start doing something about it?
I know the answer is always NOW... but most of us take it for granted... Sad but true...
Some of of you might ask why I said "a Philppines" and not "the Philippines"? It's because I am talking here of a new Philippines and not the country that we used to know. Thanks for the clarification, pinoypower. I intended to ask you about "a Philippines." Now I think your concepts are very sensible!
____
Imagine a Philippines where the crime rate is zero...where high fences are unnecessary...where we can leave our doors unlocked...where we can go back where we left our wallet and find it untouched. Imagine a Philippines where there is absolute respect for life (including the life of the unborn). Imagine a Philippines where health care is free (even if the cost is taken from taxes). Imagine a Philippines where there is no need for Filipinos to go abroad to earn more or to have a better life. Imagine a Philippines where people help the less fortunate all the time and not just when disaster occurs. Imagine a Philippines where there are free courses on arts & skills, sports, hobbies & crafts, anger management, self-improvement, etc.
Thanks for all your dreams, aspirations & imagination, pinoypower, q_sharon, mandy, neyx, ayumie, patis, tangkaruray and kai28!

Discipline, hardwork, patriotism and unity used to be instilled among Filipinos and I believe that till now we can still be if we have a strong and unifying leader.
Are you dreaming big? Not big enough to be impossible.:rolleyes1:
