/θ/ (theta)

- at the beginning is ALMOST ALWAYS PRONOUNCED in CONTENT WORDS.

e.g. thorn, think, theta, thin, thorough

- at the end of words
except: with, smooth

e.g. breath, teeth, bath, earth


/δ/ (delta)

- at the beginning is ALMOST ALWAYS PRONOUNCED in FUNCTION WORDS.

e.g. though, the, therefore

- if the 'th' is followed by -e

e.g. breathe, teethe, wreathe, bathe, soothe

*** In the middle of the word, 'th' can either be /δ/ or /θ/.

*** It is usually (not always) /δ/ before -eather / - ether
except ether /'i:θhttp://www.antimoon.com/images/uh.gifr/ or -er.

e.g.
menthol, panther, Pantheon, pantheism, ethanol

mother, leather, weather, feather, father
