Learners may be able to improve their English skills by making use of poetry either by writing/composing or reading poems.
Do you agree?

Although poems may have the so-called 'poetic license' in terms of their grammatical usage, exposure to poetry, especially for advanced learners, can help them understand the language in a much deeper sense and appreciate its beauty.
One of our poet coffeers, erik, write such deep and meaningful poems. Check him out at the poetry section or at erikestabrook.com. He has had three books on poetry published.

Yes i do agree with this. It makes one express his / her innermost feelings through poetry and thereby improving one's English skills through writing... Appreciating poetry and reading it also helps.

yes you are correct Miss Veron, I love poetry and I prefer making poems than writing.
I agree. One of the basic principles of poetry is not to repeat a word or two in a row. It will help them try to learn new words and explore different possibilities in making a simple line. I started writing poems late. Was only into it when my friend told me about Sapho (after my high school days).

Yes, I agree.. I love poems..reading them, writing them and feeling them.. I just want to remind everyone that when writing poems we are not oblige to use proper grammar.. right? so, I think poetry will be a big help for the improvement of one's english abilities just as long as they keep that thing in mind.

Hello,
If you are having interesting in reading or writing poem than for sure it will help you to increase to raise the english power..
Thank you!!
just from the sheer fact that you discover new words and proper word placement,
I know english fairly well and poetry has helped me learn allot of english so just think of someone who barely knows english,
its creative word usage what one can learn from it is only limited by their will and imagination,
I liked the polls results
Hello Coffeers
I agree! Reading and writing poetry nurtures and strengthens one's understanding of the English language (as long as you're reading English poetry). It also helps build a strong sense of syntax and grammar usage (not all poets take advantage of the "poetic grammatical license" ctivnan mentioned) and helps form one's own sense of style and voice.
But it does take time and commitment - even for fluent speakers of the language. For the lovers of nature I would like to take this moment to recommend reading Mary Oliver. Her descriptions, visuals and tight writing is nothing short of literal pleasure.
Reading is good......:happy0069:
