EMIGRATE versus IMMIGRATE

EMIGRATE
- to leave one's country

e.g. My friend's family emigrated from Manila a few years ago.

IMMIGRATE
- to move to another country

e.g. My friend's family immigrated to Australia a few years ago.

I just wonder if the word MIGRATE is accepted as leaving:

"My brothers migrated to the USA"

Any idea?

Good question, cmo! :okay:

MIGRATE

- (of a person) move from one area or country to settle in another, esp. in search of work.

This is more temporary as the main purpose is to work.

e.g. Many Filipino migrate to Saudi Arabia to work for their families here in the Philippines.

That's clear now. It's more common to read or hear, migrate than emigrate due to the nature of the travel.

Thanks!
