We may normally hear people speaking and pausing, trying to decide whether to use elder or older. Here are some clarifications on the usage of 'elder'.
ELDER
- (of members of a family, especially of closely-related members) older; more senior
- older of two persons; persons of greater age
e.g.
She is his elder by two years
We should respect our elders.
Wrong: She is two years elder than him.
Right: She is two years older than him.
