Geez, let me see, is it ABSENT, AWAY or OUT?
Use ABSENT for someone who is NOT at school, at work, at a meeting, etc. when they are supposed to be there.
e.g. Don was absent from class because he had a flu.
Use AWAY for someone who is not at home or at work because they have gone on a holiday, on a trip, etc.
e.g. Heide is away for the semestral break.
Use OUTfor someone who is not at home, in their office, etc. but is likely to return soon.
e.g. I’ve been ringing her and there was no answer. She must be out.
