Well folks, the holidays are about to end and we have consumed all those calories, carbohydrates, and cholesterols in our bodies during the Noche Buena and Media Noche. I guess it is only fair to our bodies that we give time to work ourselves into a sweat and lose all the extra fat that we have accumulated. With the moderator's permission, I would like to start organizing our badminton activities here at english-coffee.com. As I have stated before in my first thread, your comments and suggestions will prove very useful in organizing this event.

The points that should be taken upon are: 1) Where can we hold our games, 2) Which day of the week and how many times per week do we want to play, 3) How many hours per game day are we going to rent the court, and 4) The fee for the court.

If you have any other suggestions/comments/ideas, please feel free to share it so we can really enjoy the games and bring more camaraderie within english-coffee.com members.

Let's start the year right, people! Let's get into sports and enjoy a healthy lifestyle! :bravo:

Thanks Enova for the energetic invitation for sports activity for 2008.

Let's see the feedback from other members interested in playing Badminton.

Preferably I would like the venue somewhere near our office and the time after office hours.

hi colleagues,

i know a place in Sta. Ana PRC, at the back of horse racing field.
it's just along paseo de roxas, boundary of manila and makati, i think.
rate is just 100 per head during weekends and holidays but a little bit expensive during weekdays.
it's open from 8:00 am till 8:00 pm.
they have 8 available courts. the venue is fairly good.
but you know, the best thing there is the people you mingle with.
they do not discriminate newbies ha!ha!ha!

best regards,
mr. ponji ;)

Hi ponji! Thank for the suggestion. The place sounds okay, and you have told me about that place before. We might have to consider a few things about it. First, Sir CMO's suggestion to be near our office. Second, the time of play. The court is open until 8pm only, so we are left with about an hour to play. Any more comments/ideas, people? :BU:

1) Today I drove in front of the Star Mall and looked on the side where Telecare is, and before, there were courts for Badminton. But this time I did not see any. Is the whole place now taken by Telecare?

2) We may consider weekends too if time allows more members to participate for a couple of hours. Note: 1 hour is too short if we are 4 or more.

Sir, the badminton courts are till there at Starmall, but they are located at the very basement of the complex. We played there before with Mr. Ponji, and believe me, it's not worth it sir.

Yes, we may consider playing on weekends. With my personal schedule, I play on Wednesdays and Sundays every week. I play in JB courts in Taytay which is convenient to me, but not to most of you who live near Mandaluyong. Anyone here a member of Metro Badminton? :smilie3:

UPDATE:

I have contacted one of the courts where I played before. This is Smashroom, located in Oranbo road in Pasig City. If you are in Valle Verde country club, Oranbo road is the road directly in front of the Valle Verde country club, the road that connects Valle verde country club to Shaw Blvd. They have 4 taraflex over suspended wood courts, which I favor since these courts are not very hard on the knees. They have a mini-canteen, showers for men and women, and the courts have very good lighting.

The rates are a bit expensive, therefore I need your approvals on this. The days which we can play there is on Monday, Thursday or Friday. They can host our group either in the 6-8PM time or 7-9PM time. The court rental fee is P250/hour, plus P30/person as an entrance fee. So, if we play for 2 hours, our court rental fee is P500, plus the P30 per head.

You may post your comments for this while I contact Metro Badminton tomorrow.

Ok, usually the more expensive are more available for the time we need.

6-8pm seems a good time for most of us.

I may consider sponsoring 1 hour/week (court only) just to encourage attendance.

Evona, pls post for us "ignorant" some basic rules of badminton in another thread. I also would appreciate tips on warm-up exercises, if ever there is. Just to avoid unwanted injuries, hehe.

Evona, thanks for the research!

No problem, Sir. Just doing my part for the group. I may not be able to help with the members of english-coffee as far as english is concerned, but I might be able to provide help in terms of physical fitness.

I will post some links for the exercises, tips and techniques for all your badminton needs maybe this afternoon. In the meantime, I need to get a hold of Metro Badminton courts. :BU:

I just got off the phone with Metro Badminton. They are located along Pioneer Ave. in Mandaluyong. If you are along Boni Ave. going East through the Boni tunnel, it's on the right side after exiting the tunnel, just in front of the Legend hotel(?). The entrance is the one usually being used as a U-turn point for vehicles going back to EDSA.

The rates are almost the same as Smashroom. The taraflex courts are P250/hour plus P50 per person. Now, as far as reservations is concerned, there is no reservation at Metro Badminton. We have to call them on the day that we are going to play and reserve the court. The court opens at 6AM and is already accepting reservations at that time.

On the other hand, Smashroom can accept advanced reservations with a 50% downpayment.

So, what do you think folks?

Both sound good!!!! http://english-coffee.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

I would suggest to try Metro Badminton first! It is more accessible by public transportation from the office here.

Once we decide to start, one may need to call Metro Badminton at 6am for booking.

In the meantime, let's work on the date and other materials needed for a start-up.

I don't have yet shoes, racket, and I lack on physical exercise, so pls don't expect much from me in the beginning, ha ha ha.

:D :D :D
