Sorry for my ignorance but I didn't know about it till today when in another forum someone posted "leaf year" ha ha ha but it was "leap year"

Since I did not get any answer till now, I did a quick research and found the following:

Leap year

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A leap year (or intercalary year) is a year containing one or more extra days (or, in case of lunisolar calendars, an extra month) in order to keep the calendar year synchronised with the astronomical or seasonal year.

For example, February would have 29 days in a leap year instead of the usual 28. Seasons and astronomical events do not repeat at an exact number of full days, so a calendar which had the same number of days in each year would over time drift with respect to the event it was supposed to track.

By occasionally inserting (or intercalating) an additional day or month into the year, the drift can be corrected. A year which is not a leap year is called a common year.

That's it, this year we have Feb 29!!!! Now I know!

Can I explain this is my own way?

I remember my teacher in elementary years saying that there are 365 1/4 days in a year.. So if there is an extra 1/4 each year, there will be 4 1/4s in 4 years. 4 x 1/4 = 1.. So that day is added in 4th year and that makes a leap year..

If you notice the last two digits of a leap year, it always ends in a number that is multiple of 4..
like
00 in 2000
04 in 2004
08 in 2008
12 in 2012
16 in 2016
20 in 2020
...
96 in 2096
00 in 2100
04 in 2104
...

Just take note the last two digits of leap years coz it will remain the same..

by the way, in some TV show, they ask questions about leap years like "when is the next leap year?"
