My friend and I have taken advantage one of those Cebu Pacific promos. We have to travel light (carry not more than 7kg of personal stuff as specified in the GO-LITE promo). We're thinking of seeing as much of Thailand this July the cheapest but safest way we can. My female buddy and I want to combine cultural sightseeing, authentic feel of the regional spots and adventure (hiking, white-water rafting, and the like).
We don't mind taking buses with no airconditioning, eating street food, traveling nonstop (sleeping while traveling long hours by train or by bus), and sharing a room with other tourists in crowded guesthouses, if that's all it takes to make the most out of our limited budget.
The initial plan is to spend time in Bangkok (visit the temples). Then go South to Sam Roiyot (a natural preserve) blessed with mountains, beaches and hundreds of bird species. Still, I thought it was a good five or six hours away from Bangkok, the transportation route is challenging and it might be a little risky given that there's only the two of us.
Another plan we're considering is taking the bus from Bangkok to Ayuthaya (where the ancient temples are) and from there, taking the cheapest and slowest train to Chang Mai. In Chang Mai, they say there's an abundance of hiking trails and temples.
The research we did was mostly done by surfing helpful travel sites such as travelfish.org and Lonely Planet. Still, there's much to be learned from Filipinos who've traveled there before, and perhaps share their own version of their Thailand experience.
What's your Thailand story? ^^
