HEART +DESIRE =CYBERCRIME:type:
“Like everything else in the world, crime has gone hi-tech.” Hi-technology gives people more advantages, such as online shopping – getting everything our hearts desire from market without leaving home. At the same time, the worse thing appears, it brings disadvantages caused by heart’s desire. In other words, when modern technology method improved, the crimes in the world became more complicated. It’s called cybercrime. It is a subtle method of crime.
If we look up on the website WWW.USDOJ.GOV (http://www.usdoj.gov/) we will see a real event which just had happened and it was released on 11th September. It was expressed in thetitle: “International hacker pleads guilty for massive hacks of U.S. retail networks”. It gave us the result of using the modern techniques, Gonzalez and his coconspirators were able to steal more than 40 million credit and debit card numbers from retailers. A large amount of money! This is a proof of the danger of crime today. “Computer hacking and identity theft pose serious risks to our commercial, personal and financial security,” stated U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Benton J. Campbell. As a result, Gonzalez has to face up to 20 years in prison.
It’s true that cybercrime is the wave of the future and as long as computers and the Internet are around, there will always be people trying to figure out ways to steal money online. We can find more about this serious event in public media.
It is easy to understand why the crime increases every day because of the temptations from cyberspace. If there are cyber-shoppers, there will also be cybercrime. It is a dangerous temptation one cannot avoid. How can we deal with this serious event? My reaction cannot give a solution for the entire problem. I want only to give a focus on the reason behind cybercrime. When I take a glance at the “Cybercrime” article, I found out the deepest reason is the desire of heart. There is nothing wrong when you desire your life to be better, more comfortable while you use the Internet or get the advantages of hi-technology. Unfortunately, many disadvantages happen when the users cannot resist the temptations and commit a crime. That’s a problem! In my opinion, the problem can be resolved if the users know how to control their desires. They have to know that taking something that does not belong to them, but from others is illegal; it is a crime. Waking up with a star, I think I am also a cybercriminal more or less when I surf on the Internet to try to get some software in an illegal way. Don’t you commit that evil? I think we are on guilty about this!
I don’t intend to make you become a cyberphobic. Oppositely, I want to offer you some spiritual ideas which can help us keep our desires on a straight road while we are surfing the Internet and not become a cybercriminal.
We need to take some tips from pieces of “spiritual advice”: “Your desire is what you long for, what or whom you long to be with. Your desire is where you place your faith, hope, and love; it is where you expect that your desire will be satisfied. What you desire is your object of worship. If your greatest desire is anything less than God then you are in idolatry.” God knows the desires of our hearts, He is always looking into our hearts to see if we desire Him. There is a danger of falling away from God without even knowing it. It happens when our desire is no longer directed toward God. When this happens, we, are deceiving ourselves without knowledge, instead of a heartfelt desire for God. Saint James taught us: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” (4:8-10). And other verses from 1:13-15 “Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil. {14} But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.” Hoping these spiritual things can keep our desires on the straight road in our lives and keep us far away from cybercrime!
