‘Santi’ threatens Camarines, Quezon

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon “Santi” continued to close in on the provinces of Camarines Norte and Quezon Friday night as moderate to heavy rain fell on Metro Manila.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the center of “Santi” was located 30 kilometers north of Daet, Camarines Norte with maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kilometers per hour.
It is moving west southwest at 20 kilometers per hour.
“Santi” is expected to be 260 kilometers southwest of Metro Manila by Sunday morning.
The typhoon was expected to make landfall in Infanta, Quezon Friday night and cross Southern Luzon early Saturday morning, passing by the provinces of Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon and Metro Manila.
Storm signal number 3 was hoisted over Quezon, Polillio Island, Bulacan, Bataan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Lubang Island, Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Metro Manila.
These areas are expected to experience stormy weather.
Storm signal number 2 was raised over Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga, Zambales, Albay, Romblon, the Calamian Group of islands, and Burias Island.
Signal number 1 was up over Isabela, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Sorsogon, Masbate, Ticao Island, northern Palawan, northern Samar and northern Panay.
Residents in low-lying areas and mountain slopes in all these areas have to watch out for flashfloods and landslides.
Residents living in coastal areas under storm signal number 3 and 2 must watch out for storm surges, or big waves generated by tropical cyclones, PAGASA said.
