At the port of Piraeus, Plakiotakis inspected the new measures on the ships

In the port of Piraeus and specifically outside the passenger ferry “Samos Island” which runs the route to Chios and Mytilene, Giannis Plakiotakis was found in the afternoon, as the free movement of citizens to all islands was allowed again.

In his statements, the minister said that today the free movement to all the islands begins and that the experience of the itineraries of Crete was absolutely positive.

He thanked passengers and crew for the proper observance of safety rules during this difficult period, saying that “precautionary and protection measures, first of all, protect themselves and public health on the islands.”

The Ministry of Shipping, in cooperation with the relevant ministries, wants in every way and means to ensure the public health, especially of the small islands, the minister added.

“We have managed to have zero cases on the islands in the past and this is a great legacy for our country, which we intend to take advantage of in the run-up to the summer season,” he said.

Mr. Plakiotakis also stressed that the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy is working to further strengthen coastal shipping, monitoring developments on a daily basis, so that in cooperation with scientists, at the appropriate time, to review passenger protocols.

The Minister of Shipping thanked everyone for their patience and wished the travelers a good trip and a good summer.
