Violent tension was created on Friday morning in the Roma settlement in Nea Smyrni, Larissa, after the refusal of the people who had been positive for the corona to be transferred to a special accommodation structure.
According to local websites in Larissa, a group of Roma gathered in Nea Smyrni protesting against what is happening in the last hours in their settlement with the new measures taken, attacked the car in which the governor of Thessaly, Costas Agorastos, and the mayor were riding. Larissa, Apostolos Kalogiannis.
They also caused incidents with fires from tires and bins, with the bus of the Fire Brigade carrying the cases as well as the vehicle of EODY that would receive the samples, leaving the scene in a hurry.
It is also reported that some people attacked a journalist who was punched.
The news was confirmed by the governor of Thessaly, Mr Costas Agorastos, speaking to the local television station, Astra, while at the same time saying that he was told that there was an attempt to hit a journalist with a car.
“There are no positives in the corona,” said Roma
At the same time, some Roma claims that they are not positive about the corona. Speaking to the cameras at noon on Friday, they showed their certificates, emphasizing that they were subjected to tests in private laboratories in Larissa and the results were negative.
On the contrary, according to them, the tests they underwent from the EODY scales showed that they were infected with the virus.
That fact must be taken into account.
35 new cases in the settlement
It is noted that 35 new cases were recorded in Nea Smyrni, Larissa, hit yesterday, after the sweeping checks carried out by EODY.
After 637 samplings that took place in the Roma district of Nea Smyrni, Larissa, 35 positive cases emerged.
In an extraordinary meeting held yesterday, in the Chamber of Commerce of Civil Protection under the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias and in open communication with the Governor of Thessaly Costas Agorastos, Professor of Epidemiology and representative of the post of Chief of Staff Lostoslou and Christos Hadjichristos and isolation of positive cases at the “Help” Rehabilitation Center and the continuation of extensive tracking of close contact cases.

To put in a state of enhanced surveillance and for reasons of Public Health the following area of the Nea Smyrni district of the Municipality of Larissa, and specifically of the area located between Dositheou (Right) – Zanou (DE) – Pezodromos (Left) – Pezodromos (DE) streets -Mesorachis (AR) -Voviidos (DE) -Kadmou (AR) -Dafnis (DE) -Pezodromos (Ar) -Pezodromos (DE) -Pezodromos (AR) (Ekatis & Ekavis) -Pezodromos (DE) -Pez – Road back to Elementary School – Kindergarten – Demosthenous (border with school) (AR) – Antigonis (DE) as a finish – Leof Karamanli to Danais-Danais but Dositheos
In the context of the above decision and for its implementation, the following measures are launched by the decision of the Secretary-General of Civil Protection Vassilis Papageorgiou:
- Traffic ban from 22.00 to 06.00 which will be valid from today 15-5- 2020 and for 14 days.
- Traffic is allowed only for serious health reasons.
- Prohibition of gathering of more than ten (10) people and strict supervision of the measure
- Mandatory use of a mask for everyone.
- The street vendors working in the public sector will be able to leave the area of Nea Smyrni for work if they have two (2) consecutive negative tests, which will be repeated every five (5) days.
- From the Region of Thessaly, fabric masks (1,500 pcs.) Will be distributed to everyone and antiseptics to each family.
- Tomorrow 15/05/2020 the K.OM.Y. (Mobile Health Groups) from E.O.D.Y will carry out sampling to the retailers and the rest who were absent from their home in the previous days as well as tracking of positive cases.
The Greek Police and the Municipal Police are responsible for ensuring the implementation of this law, the detection of violations and the imposition of the prescribed administrative sanctions.
