“The study used an objective way to measure olfactory dysfunction with special tests and detected olfactory disorders in 64% of patients,” he said, adding that:
“Coronaviruses attack the olfactory epithelium due to the increased expression it presents to receptor 2. It is the famous enzyme that forms the body’s door for the virus to enter our body.”
Mr Tsiodras referred to an experiment that showed that monkeys had developed antibodies within a short time of the first time they became ill.
“This study could help with the vaccine,” he said.
For where the largest transmissions of the disease occurred
He also referred to the largest transmissions of the disease in immigrant homes, bars, ships, cruise ships, ski resorts.
All of the above, according to him, played a key role in the epidemic, most transmissions of the disease occur there according to the ECDC, said Mr Tsiodras.
“Keeping a distance, avoiding crowds, staying home if we have symptoms. I hope we return to normalcy. The road back is not easy, “he said.
